SPARKLE THIS SEASON

When shopping recently, I see a common occurence amongst the rails of clothes. Yes, its the sequined dress. Everyones selling it, from Primark to Paul&Joe and everyones wearing it, including x factor winner, Alexandra Burke. Whatever height or shape, you can all pull this look off. With the clocks going back and the nights getting darker, sparkle in the dark and wear this look towards christmas with this all round seasonal dress. To complete the outfit, wear a killer pair of heels and strictly no jewellery. Enjoy going out this season knowing you look fabulous!

WHATS UP DOC?

I've always loved Doc Martens but never so much as to when my good ol'dad gave me a pair for helping him move house. They're navy blue, matte ankel boots, and they are absolutely gorgeous! So what is it with this 80s comeback? Well believe it or not DM's have been around for longer than I have existed. Yes that's right, our parents generation. My mums been having her flashbacks whenever she sees my DMs...So what colour are yours? Wait, you dont have a pair? Don't panic and don't rush, they have been around since 1960 so I'm sure they won't be going anywhere soon! Thanks to Dr Klaus Maertens, this guy helped create a fashion statement, and shaped the rebel teenager from his little shed back in Germany. The boots were a common item amongst the working classes and throughout the years have spread to the pop fashionistas of the 80's and the modern teenager of the 90's. Lets admit, DM's have always been different, they stand out in the crowd and I think this is what this type of brand had hoped to achieve. Dr Martens come at a price, originals will set you back around £75. They also take some time to break into but after that its like a walk in a park.

ALEXANDER WANG @ SELFRIDGES.

Thanks to my wonderful internet provider I am crashing at my friend Freyas house and kindly using her internet whilst shes playing the beer game on my iphone (long story, about the beer game that is...). Anyway I checked my twitter on monday evening and found out the amazing Alexander Wang was going to be at Selfridges the next day. So of course straight after my history lesson I legged it there, and being early I thought I would use my time constructively and so I went wondering around the shop floor. There was this beautiful cardi by See by Chloe which was absolutely gorgeous, however it was £200, a little bit out of my price range. I bumped into a few famous faces along the way, one being Jamelia (ex celebrity) getting her hair done in the hairdressers, lucky for some eh? So after my little tour around Selfridges I decided I should wait patiently for Mr Wang, whilst feeling sick and dizzy for eating sushi whilst running (not a pleasant sight on Oxford St). The crowd were gathering and I was at the front, all prepared with my notebook and drawings of his collections which I wanted to show him. It reached half 5 and he still was no where to be seen. At 5:40pm Alexander arrived fashionably late and seemed almost surprised to see so many fashion crazy girls all glaring at him. Bless, he was rather startled and started asking us to come closer to him which was just asking to be mobbed by the huge crowd.I dived in and after becoming photographer for about 5 people (sorry if your photos came out dodgy) I introduced myself. He was so polite and extremely down to earth. So I pulled out my drawings and he seemed almost astonished to see them, and I quote 'wow, they're amazing'. Obviously I wasnt expecting such a reaction and was like ohmygod really?? So he signed my drawings, correcting the a to an e on my name (helene) and I had my picture taken ! After meeting him I was actually shaking, and I really dont get starstruck with people so this was super weird for me. It was an absolute pleasure to meet him and I would like to say a BIG thankyou to Selfridges for letting me and many others having the privilage to meet such a great person.

CHIPPED NAIL PAINT, CRIME OR TREND?

So I spent the day wondering around, and asking friends if they had chipped nail paint on their nails. This all occured to me last night as I painted my nails with Barry M on Monday and as they chipped I couldn't find the same nail paint to re-paint them. I was quite fed up to be honest so I just had to deal with the chipped look as I couldn't be bothered with the whole nail varnish remover ritual. So as I was saying, this idea occured to me today and therefore started hassling friends to show me their nails, like a freak, and asking them if I could kindly take a photo. Crime or trend, well most of us, lets face it, have all had chipped nail paint on at some point in our lives. Do you mind? I do, and personally I think it's a fashion crime but I completely understand the amount of time it takes to have perfect nails. So what do you think? Crime or trend?
P.S Thankyou to everyone I hassled about chipped nail paint.

The competition will be rife however Dirty Velvet will have no problem in attracting consumers with their unique, original and very creative designs.
